General Description
This villa in San Gimignano was born from the restoration of a medieval tower, constructed as a defence tower over eight hundred years ago on Etruscan foundations. Farmers came to occupy the building over the centuries, each adding on space as their families grew. The result, in twenty-first century terms, is a large country home that is full of history and sits, with three other medieval towers, at the centre of a two hundred acre farm estate producing wine and olive oil in the hills near San Gimignano. The interior, which is divided into two self-contained residences, bears lovely touches such as a glorious 17th century open fireplace, antique furnishings, old fashioned style furnishings and bathrooms, throughout and a reading room which occupies the entire top floor of the tower itself. The bedrooms and all four living areas overlook well kept lawns leading down to the swimming pool terrace, which is furnished with plenty of umbrellas and loungers. In the complex the furnishings is a little bit old fashioned but balanced from the beautiful outside space.

Further Details - Local Area San Gimignano San Gimignano, 7km/5 miles from the property and midway between Florence and Siena [both 1 hour by car], is perhaps Italy's most famous hill town, noted for its tall stone towers. A beautiful 40-minute drive to the south-west is Etruscan-founded Volterra. To the east is the Chianti wine-producing region: Castellina -in-Chianti, 40 minutes, is a good place to begin. Directly to the north is Certaldo, 20 minutes, a spectacular hill town visible for many miles.
